2025 GUN BILLS
In 2025, Colorado lawmakers significantly escalated their attack on the 2nd Amendment. This page tracks the latest gun bills – who is writing them, what they mean for your rights, and how they impact Colorado. Our goal is to educate and inform you so you know the laws being pushed, the legislators behind them, and what you can do to stand for your civil right to keep and bear arms.
Bill names begin with either SB (Senate Bill) or HB (House Bill) to denote which branch of legislation the bill is initiated in. Once you have HB or SB, you find the year the bill was proposed, for example SB25 would be Senate Bill 2025. The next sequence of numbers is the sequence the bill was created, such as SB25-003 would mean Senate Bill 2025, the 3rd bill proposed in 2025.
| BILL | BILL NAME | ARMED COLORADO’S STANCE | STATUS | EFFECTIVE DATE(S) | PRO 2A SUMMARY | PRIME SPONSOR | PRIME SPONSOR | PRIME SPONSOR | PRIME SPONSOR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
HB25-1098 | Automated Protection Order Victim Notification System | OPPOSE | PASSED/ BECAME LAW | Effective dates: July 1, 2025 (general provisions) October 1, 2025 (certain amendments under C.R.S. 18-1-1001) August 6, 2025 (Sections 1 & 2, upon passage unless otherwise specified) | From a pro-2nd Amendment civil rights perspective, HB25-1098 is dangerous because it: Codifies state-run surveillance tied directly to firearm denials. Expands the scope and permanence of red flag laws. Violates privacy, due process, and presumption of innocence. Provides the state with immunity while stripping gun owners of recourse. This bill is another step toward normalizing firearm registries and government monitoring, in direct conflict with the principles outlined in Heller, McDonald, and Bruen. | Rep Rebekah Stewart (D) Dist 30 | Rep Matt Soper (R) Dist 54 | Senator Dafna Michaelson Jenet (D) Dist 21 | Senator Julie Gonzales (D) Dist 34 |

Instead of teaching safety, responsibility, or the constitutional protections affirmed in Heller, McDonald, and Bruen, this bill stigmatizes lawful gun ownership and uses taxpayer resources to indoctrinate children and families against their 2nd Amendment rights. | |||||
